JOURNEY WAS STARTED
Cricket's journey in Cameroon began with a visionary initiative by the Commonwealth Students and Youth Development Organisation. The Cameroon Cricket Outreach Program (CCOP), spearheaded by Victor Agbor-Nso, aimed to use cricket as a vehicle to promote Commonwealth values, foster grassroots participation, and achieve broader youth empowerment goals.
CREATION OF FECACRICKET
As the sport gained traction, the need for a formal governing body became clear. The Ministry of Sports and Physical Education provided the framework, leading to the official recognition of the Cameroon Cricket Federation (FECACRICKET) on February 15, 2005. This ministerial decision established FECACRICKET as the definitive authority for managing and promoting the sport within the country.
JOINING ICC
Their persistent efforts paid off when Cameroon was granted Affiliate Membership at the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Annual General Meeting in London on June 29, 2007. This significant milestone marked the country's official entry into the global cricketing community, solidifying its place on the international stage.
THE PATH TO INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
Since its inception, FECACRICKET has diligently pursued its mission and objectives. While CCOP continues to play a vital role in developing players and empowering youth, the federation has focused on meeting the stringent requirements for international affiliation.
